The Morvant man killed in a drive-by shooting on the Lady Young Road on January 14 has been identified by police as 45-year-old Akido Simon.

Simon, of St Francois Valley Road, Morvant, was found dead in his car by passers-by around 10.45 pm.

Motorists called police after they heard several loud explosions and, moments later, noticed Simon’s Nissan Cefiro riddled with gunshots at the side of the road.

Police on patrol in the Morvant district responded and found Simon’s car partially off the roadway in a drain near the Las Alturas housing development.

Upon checking, they saw Simon’s lifeless body seated in the driver’s seat and slumped over to the passenger seat with multiple gunshot wounds.

The district medical officer viewed his body, declared him dead and ordered his body to be taken to the Forensic Science Centre for a post mortem to be done.

Simon’s car was wrecked to a secure police compound to be examined for evidential and forensic purposes.

Officers from the North Eastern Division processed the scene and found fourteen 5.56 spent shell casings.

The motive for his killing remains unknown and no arrests have been made, but investigations are ongoing.

Simon’s death pushed the murder toll for the year to 18, while the toll for the comparative period last year was 14.
