A GRANDMOTHER died by suicide on January 5, after her infant granddaughter had died by drowning in the family pool at Diego Martin on December 31.

"It is confirmed," a police source told Newsday. He said the woman had died that morning at a public hospital.

Newsday had previously reported the baby's death in our publication of January 2.

The 55-year-old grandmother had been left to take care of her ten-month-old granddaughter. The baby's 27-year-old father and her 29-year-old mother had gone upstairs in the family's two bedroom home. When the father then returned downstairs, he asked the grandmother where the baby was but she did not know.

He then found the baby in the pool.

Attempts were made to resuscitate the infant and she was taken to the St James Medical Complex with a weak pulse but later pronounced dead. One media house reported that a bruise had been seem on her right eyebrow.

Reports were that the Western Division CID and West End Police Station visited and processed the scene.
