Bandits steal fries, saltfish from van

IN a daring midday robbery, thieves made off with thousands of dollars of goods, including saltfish, from Wesco Foods.
Reports say the incident resulted in more than $2,000 in cases of foodstuff being stolen from one of the company’s vehicles at East Gates Mall.
Around 3 pm on December 16, an employee parked a company van in the car park and went into the mall.
When he returned 15 minutes later, he discovered the goods had been stolen.
The stolen items included a case of boneless saltfish worth $305, one case of Premier crinkle-cut fries valued at $175, one case of lamb worth $870, a case of cow heel valued at $508 and a case of American Mix vegetables valued at $260.
The driver gave no one permission to remove the items and reported the theft to the Arouca Police Station.
Arouca police are also investigating the theft of construction tools from a van in Bon Air earlier that day.
The 35-year-old victim told officers he parked his panel van along Gannet Street at around 11 pm on December 15.
Around 5 am the next morning, he returned and found the left side door window broken.
He checked and saw a pioneer deck, a Dewalt jackhammer, a demolition hammer, a Dewalt Cordless gun valued, two Dewalt chargers, a wrench set, a screwdriver set, a Klein pipe cutter, a drain cleaning machine and a drill bit set missing.
The items are said to be worth approximately $45,000.
PC Ramoutar has been assigned as the investigating officer for both incidents.
