Cunupia man granted $3 million bail on ganja trafficking charge

A 28-year-old mechanic from Cunupia has been granted bail in the sum of $3 million, charged with the possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.
Mickel Alexander, of Sampson Street, appeared before Master Rhea Libert in the High Court on December 1.
Alexander was arrested on November 27 by members of the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) after a police raid on an apartment in Cunupia.
During the search, the officers allegedly discovered a total of 344 kilogrammes of marijuana.
PC Greene laid the charge.
At the hearing, the prosecution objected to bail, citing the significant quantity of narcotics and other legal considerations.
However, defense attorney Taradath Singh argued that while the offence was serious, there were sufficient conditions that the court could impose to address concerns about his client's release.
In his bail application, Singh proposed several conditions, including a curfew and the surrender of Alexander's passport.
In granting the bail and as conditions of the bail, the court ordered that Alexander report to the police station three times a week and change his address.
The matter was adjourned to March 2026 for a status hearing.
