ST PAUL’S Anglican Primary School were crowned champions of the Victoria District Under-11 final after defeating San Fernando Boys’ RC 3-0 at Manny Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella on November 4.

Talismanic striker Malachi Joseph put St Paul’s up in the tenth minute, halfway through the 20-minute half. Khadeem Flemming doubled their lead when he found the back of the net in the 30th, before Wraydenn Charles affirmed victory by bagging the final goal of the contest in the 33rd.

In the semi-finals, St Paul’s also got past defending district champions San Fernando Boys’ Government 3-0.

This is St Paul’s second district championship in three years.

Speaking to head coach Rondel Renwick after the victory, he said last year’s performances served as inspiration for this year’s title-winning run.

“Since we were knocked out in the semis last year against San Fernando Boys’ Government, we immediately started preparation for this season. The results we are seeing now are due to the preparation we have been putting in,” Renwick said.

“It’s been a great commitment from the school administration, parents, coaching staff and the players themselves. Now we move on to the national tournament, and again, preparation will be the key for success.”

Renwick said discipline and commitment described his bunch of players, and without it, there is no success. He added, “They understand that if we want to be champions, it will have to be earned and not given. They have really been focused and putting in the required work in training. Winning is important for us, but it is even more important for me as coach to ensure that I teach the boys the correct way in playing the game to aid in their development.”

“At this age, proper development is where the focus should be. We have to think about the future of Trinidad and Tobago football, and we, the grassroots coaches have a huge responsibility in putting our best foot forward in this regards.”
