Wasa promises 6-week water fix for Mt D'Or

Aranguez/St. Joseph MP Devesh Maharaj said the government’s partnership with Wasa will insure a speedy, six-week fix to a booster station on Mt D'Or Road, Champs Fleurs, which has been down for around three years.
The situation has left many citizens living at the top of the hills dependent on truck-borne water.
During a site visit on September 29, acting WASA CEO Jeevan Joseph said the issue stemmed from the pump in the booster station being relocated without a replacement.
Maharaj said he noticed the issue while campaigning in the area and said he was committed to relieving the problem. The seat was previously held by PNM's Terrence Deyalsingh.
In 2022, a similar station was opened in nearby Mendez Drive to relieve similar water challenges.
Many people in Mt D'Or welcomed the promise, hoping for a a more consistent, reliable water supply.
One man who lives on the hill past the booster station thanked the government and Wasa for replacing the pump
A long-time resident said water problems has been part of the history of the community. She recalled having to travel to the main road to access pipe-borne water years ago.
Joseph announced plans to do major upgrades to the Acono Water Treatment Plant, Maracas Valley, St Joseph, on September 27.
Joseph said the work would increase water production from 375,000 gallons per day, to over 500,000. He said this would benefit over 11,000 residents in Acono Road, Belle View, Harmony Drive, Acono Gardens, Sarame Gardens, Green Hill, Caurita, Acono Ridge, Guamal, and Maracas, St Joseph.
