Buccoo Utd, Patience Hill start Tobago T10 Windball tourney in style

BUCCOO United and Patience Hill Mumbai got off to perfect starts when the 2025 Tobago T10 Community Windball Cricket League bowled off with ten exciting matches at Parade Grounds, Bacolet, Tobago on September 21.

Buccoo top group B with five points after winning their first two matches, with Patience Hill surging to the top of group A with six points after winning their first two games.

Patience Hill got the 11-team tournament started in dominant fashion when they hammered OPM Cast Iron by eight wickets in a low-scoring clash. With Joshua Charles and Obari Elliot taking two wickets apiece, OPM made just 48 for nine in their ten overs. Patience Hill made light work of the chase as veteran player Ancil Nedd crashed 31 off 12 balls to take his team to the facile victory inside five overs.

In their second game, Patience Hill were led by an impressive knock of 51 from 24 balls by former TT under-19 captain Olando James as they stormed to a 46-run win over Betsy’s Hope Scrape Up. Batting first, Patience Hill slipped to 21 for three before a 94-run stand between James and opening batsman Daveon Shangie (30 off 15) took them past the 100-run mark. Patience Hill lost three more quick wickets as Kevon Edwards (two for 34) struck a double-blow to end the eighth over, but number eight batsman Keston Rodney ensured a grandstand finish with an unbeaten 24 as his team posted a daunting 143 for six.

In reply, Betsy’s Hope put up a fight but were eventually restricted to 96 for nine. Martin McDavid top-scored with 25 off 11, with Elton Cruickshank and Shaquille Duncan doing the damage for Patience Hill by grabbing three wickets apiece.

In group B, Buccoo also flexed their muscles and they chased down a solid 102-run target versus Scarborough Urban United in their first game to get a resounding nine-wicket win. After Scarborough made 101 for eight, Buccoo were led by the opening pair of Nicholas Smart (40 ff 16) and captain Leron Lezama (53 not out off 21) as they raced to 107 for nine after just 6.4 overs.

In their second game, Buccoo had a much tighter affair against Goodwood Knight Riders and they clinched the win with four balls to spare as Lezama again showed his quality. Goodwood made 97 for five, with Ndu Bisi Hall taking three for 22 to back up a four-wicket haul from the first match. In reply, Lezama (52 not out off 24) and Smart (26 off 26) again led the charge as they had a 75-run partnership for the first wicket before the latter was bowled by TT Red Force’s Joshua James in the eighth over.

Buccoo lost a couple more wickets in the penultimate over, leaving them needing seven off the last over.

Lezama kept his composure, though, and slapped a six off the second ball of the over to give Buccoo the win with seven wickets intact.

In other results, Betsy’s Hope got a big 77-run victory over Double K Roxborough Royals, Goodwood defeated Kabs Solutions Roxborough Gunners and Main Ridge Challengers got past Mason Hall Challengers.
