Preparations are being made to have the body of drowning victim Neal Morris of Grenada handed over to his family.

THA Chief Secretary Farley Augustine made the disclosure as he spoke with Newsday on September 16 via telephone.

Morris, the 71-year-old Grenadian national of Bathway, St Patrick, drowned at the Buccoo Reef Marine Park, while his friend – a British national – sustained severe injuries while trying to save him.

“I have spoken to Mr Morris’ children and his niece along with a sibling who is resident in Trinidad. Currently, we are making preparations for his niece and a brother that lives in Trinidad to visit the island so that we can have the necessaries done so that the body can be handed over to the family.”

He said British national David Henry was injured on his left foot by the propeller of the engine as he jumped in the water to save his friend.

“He had successful surgery, and we have some specialist who are looking at his situation.”

Henry’s wife, he said, is in the care of one of the crisis managers at the THA Division of Tourism, Culture, Antiquities and Transportation.

“We are ensuring that the family gets all that they need in preparation for their departure from the island.”

He said he continues to be in conversation with Grenadian officials as well as the British High Commissioner.
