CCC mum on renewal of contracts

The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) continues to remain silent about the expiration of contracts of 72 of its staff, which would leave it with approximately 40 staff until 2025.
However, an anonymous source at the CCC informed Newsday on July 31 that the contracts had been renewed for another month. This would be the second one-month extension for the workers.
Newsday visited the CCC training facility on Mausica Road where MILAT trainees were preparing for an event.
Asked whether he would look for a job elsewhere if his contract was not renewed, a worker said he had a family to look after so he would seek his own interest.
Defence Minister Wayne Sturge said on July 30 that consideration was being given to giving the workers a stipend. He said there would be an intake of students in January, at which time staff would be hired. He said if the workers’ contracts were not renewed, he would expect them to seek work elsewhere.
Up to the time of publishing, Newsday was not able to contact the minister to confirm the renewal of the contracts, despite multiple attempts. The public relations department of the CCC declined to comment.
