THE University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT), in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Ministry of Education, recently hosted a prize giving ceremony for the renewable rivalry national competition.

In a release, UTT said this competition forms a cornerstone of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Education (REEE) Project – a national initiative led by its Outreach and Industry Relations Unit.

"This project aims to cultivate early interest in sustainable energy solutions among primary and secondary school students. It also promotes STEM education and environmental consciousness among our nation’s youth," UTT said.

Over 200 students participated in this inaugural competition, tackling age-specific challenges under the themes: Windy Wonders and Solar Horizons.

Speaking at the event, Prof Prakash Persad, Minister of Tertiary Education and Skills Training, praised the university for its innovative approach and effective use of local materials in the project.

He also encouraged UTT to continue exploring opportunities that will further enhance development and sustainability.

Prof Rean Maharaj, assistant vice president, research, academic and student affairs, also emphasised the importance of strategic partnerships, noting that the initiative demonstrates the strength of collective collaboration.

He acknowledged the project’s success in uniting key national stakeholders to design and implement a cohesive and impactful programme.
