Dead body washes up on Scarborough beach

POLICE are investigating the discovery of a partially decomposed body near the Scarborough fishing depot in Tobago on July 8.

Police sources told Newsday around 2.15 pm, officers of the Scarborough Police Station observed what appeared to be a body lying on the beach at Castries Street.

In a further check, the officers discovered the partially decomposed body of a male, lying among seaweed.

Video footage later shared on social media showed authorities retrieving the body from the shoreline.

Officers from the Crime Scene Unit later processed the scene.

The body was viewed by a district medical officer and pronounced dead at the scene. It was ordered to the Scarborough General Hospital Mortuary, pending an autopsy.

The dead man's ethnicity remains unknown.

Scarborough police are investigating.
