THE National Infrastructure Development Company Ltd says the Connector Road leading to the Elmina Clarke-Allen Highway will be restricted to a single lane with immediate effect.

A release on July 2 said the change was necessary to facilitate efforts to stabilise a section of the road after a recent slope slippage.

"Temporary protective measures were implemented to prevent further deterioration of the affected area.

"Current works include further slope reinforcement with permanent slope restoration and grading to follow in order to reduce future risks and to enhance the long-term safety of the corridor."

The release said the work would take three weeks to complete.

The highway links Sangre Grande to Cumuto and was built at a cost of $500 million.

It was opened by the then-PNM government on April 24 – four days before the general election.

Soon after, sections of this highway have experienced erosion which led to slippage.
