A 31-year-old man was denied bail after he appeared in the South Criminal High Court on July 2, charged with robbery with violence against a 79-year-old woman during a home invasion two months ago.

PC Jaglal led investigations under the supervision of ASP Forbes, ASP Corrie, Insp Prescott, Sgt Tai Kan, W/Cpl Bickram and with the advice of the South Western Division legal advisor Cpl Salazar.

The pensioner of Quarry Village, Fyzabad, told police she was in the kitchen on the ground floor of her two-storey home around 9.45 am when two masked men entered and announced a robbery. Both suspects hit the woman several times and tied her hands and feet together. They began to ransack the property stealing $5,000, two televisions and two 20-pound gas cylinders before fleeing on foot.

The woman was able to free herself and sought the assistance of passing vehicles when the police were contacted. She was taken to the Siparia District Health Facility by relatives.

While conducting investigations PC Jaglal and PC Marshall went about 150 metres into a heavily forested area off of Sand Pit Road, Fyzabad Branch Road, Quarry Village, Siparia, where they found a makeshift camp with a man holding a television, matching one of the suspects’ descriptions. After hearing PC Jaglal call out to him the man ran away. The officers pursued but did not catch him. South Western Division Task Force also searched for the suspect but were unsuccessful. A television and two gas cylinders were allegedly found in the makeshift camp.
