Man, 74, wanted for chopping in Rousillac

South Western Division police say an arrest is imminent in the case of a 74-year-old man suspected of chopping another man during a dispute two weeks ago in Rousillac.

On July 2, senior police sources confirmed to Newsday that the victim, 59-year-old Premnath Mahadeo, had been discharged from the hospital.

Police were told that around 5.30 pm on June 22, Mahadeo was liming at a house on National Mining Trace, Delhi Road, Rousillac, with the elderly suspect.

The men reportedly got into an argument, during which the suspect grabbed a cutlass and chopped Mahadeo.

Mahadeo sustained injuries to his back, left shoulder and forehead.

He was taken to the Point Fortin Hospital, where acting Cpl Ramnarine and PC Rooplal visited and gathered evidence.

He was listed in stable condition and has since been discharged.

PC Noel of the South Oropouche Police Station is leading the investigation.
