Man charged with father's murder sent for psychiatric evaluation

Christopher Banfield, the man accused of beating his 75-year-old father to death at the family home in Flanagin Town, appeared before a master in the High Court on June 23.

Master Whitney Franklin, in the North Court C, denied bail and ordered that the accused undergo a psychiatric evaluation at the St Ann's Psychiatric Hospital.

The case was adjourned to July 8.

The body of Banfield's father, Peter Banfield, was found on the kitchen floor of the family's home at Mamoral Road in the Brasso police district on the night of June 12.

Investigations revealed that the father and son reportedly fought earlier that night.

Banfield was initially taken to the Chaguanas Health Facility for treatment after his arrest and later discharged.

WPC Ramroop of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations, Region Three, laid the charge.

Supt Persad, ASP Maharaj and Sgt Bridgemohan of the bureau led the investigation.
