The relatives of the 39-year-old man who was gunned down in a drive-by shooting outside his San Fernando home on 18 June are desperately seeking answers about his murder.

The man was identified as Garry Mohan.

Police said around 4.30 pm on June 18 Mohan was leaving his businessplace, Chiney Wrecking Service, when a white Nissan Tiida slowed down. A gunman in the car shot at him and he was hit twice in his abdomen.

Mohan ran into his business place before collapsing. The Nissan Tiida then drove away.

Mohan's relatives took him to the San Fernando General Hospital where he died while undergoing surgery.

Police later found the Nissan Tiida abandoned near the scene of the incident.

Mohan's relatives spoke to the media on June 20, as they were still shocked by his untimely death.

His wife, Tracy Mohan, who he had been married to for the last 18 years said he was a great person and even better father.

"He was a loving person and I had no problems with him whatsoever.

"Everything he had was for his children. They were the most important thing in his life. He would go out of his way for them and never left them at any time."

Mohan had four children – ages 16, 14, 13 and five. His wife said their lives were built on a routine, one that heavily involved God.

"He would get up at 5 am and read the bible with his children everyday before they leave the house.

"He would make them go to church every Sunday. That is how they learnt to be organised every Sunday morning, for church."

She added that he would frequently do charity by providing meals for a children's home or a home for the aged.

"He told his children that he learnt that from his father – to give back to the community no matter religion or race."

Mohan said she was confused as to why someone would take her husband's life.

"He have no enemies, nothing, nothing, nothing. Everyone is totally shocked. He is a person if someone curse him, he would tell you thanks and just walk off. Why would they come for him?

"(Outside of work) if he going somewhere he'd take his children and come back. It is a shock to the whole family, because he is the baby and they know he doesn't meddle with anyone."

Mohan wants answers and said the country needed to stand up against crime.

"Too much innocent people are dying. Too many people are working hard for their family and at the end of it they are shot and killed. A whole family is now left shattered."

His wife also dismissed claims of any family disputes, refuting a motive that had been circulating on social media.

"I don't know where they get that from. At the end of the day all the brothers do their business here."

Garry had four brothers and a sister. They owned Chiney Wrecking Services, a company started by their father almost 40 year ago.

The company specialises in vehicle wrecking, the sale of car parts, and the buying and selling of damaged vehicles.

Garry's brother-in-law, Richard Heeralal, echoed similar sentiments about the type of person he was.

"He was a real loved person, very kind. He would give a lot. There's nothing you would ask for that he wouldn't give you."

Heeralal worked with Garry and was nearby when the incident occurred. Asked if Garry had received any death threats in the past, he said, "Is a business place, but no threats to say serious. That's why everyone trying to figure out what could be the motive behind this."

Asked how he felt about his safety and going back to work, he said, "Everyone has to live. You can't just give up and say well he die and shut down everything. His legacy has to go on."

He said the brothers will carry on the business as they were running it together.

Asked if he had any suggestions on how to curb crime, he said he did not know how to answer.

"It have the government and the people in that area to see about that. That is not my speciality so I can't say what to implement or suggest anything."

No arrests have been made and investigations are still ongoing.
