[UPDATED] Rousillac woman, 59, dead, husband wounded after shooting

POLICE are yet to determine a motive for a late-night shooting in Debe on June 15, which claimed the life of 59-year-old Elizabeth “Mary” Lennard and also left her common-law husband Premnath Enal, 63, in hospital nursing gunshot wounds.
The police said gunmen ambushed a car the couple were in, near the Debe roundabout shortly after 10 pm June 15.
Enal, wounded in the attack, managed to drive the car to La Romaine where he alerted residents, who then called the police. He was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital for treatment.
Although the police initially gave the couple's address as Rousillac, Lennard and Enal lived in a rental house in Dow Village, South Oropouche. Enal is originally from the address in Rousillac as given by police.
Police reports said that at about 10.20 pm, officers on mobile patrol in La Romaine received a call about a motionless person inside a car on Church Street, Rambert Village. On arrival, they found a white Nissan AD wagon with blood on the left back passenger door.
Lennard was found reclined in the front passenger seat with gunshot wounds to her face. The driver’s door was open, the car's engine was still running and the headlights were on. At Rousillac, residents confirmed that the Enal family was originally from the community but had moved out some years ago.
At Dow Village, the house appeared to be locked, and no one was seen on the compound. Newsday was told the couple had moved there about two years ago. Lennard was said to be the mother of three adult sons from a previous relationship, all living abroad.
She was said to have lived abroad for a period before returning to Trinidad and moving to Dow Village. Residents expressed shock, adding that the car was seen on the compound around 9 pm on June 15.
A resident said they did not expect the couple to leave the house after 9 pm and initially did not connect the news of a woman being murdered in La Romaine to Lennard.
Police from the Southern Division and the Homicide Bureau of Investigations, Region Three, responded and gathered evidence. No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing.
Lennard's body was subsequently removed to the Forensic Science Centre in St James for autopsy.
