Flanagin Town pensioner found dead at home, relative detained

Pensioner Peter Banfield, 75, from Mamoral Road, Flanagin Town in Tabaquite, was found dead at his home on the night of June 12.
A close male relative with mental-health challenges has been detained in connection with the suspected domestic dispute.
Police investigations revealed that around 7.30 pm on June 12, the suspect visited the home of a female relative “acting suspiciously.”
He told her that he and Banfield had a fight and that he left his father in the kitchen.
Concerned, the woman telephoned another female relative, who then called Banfield by phone to check on him.
When there was no answer, she went to his home.
After calling out several times with no response, she opened a door and discovered Banfield’s body lying on the back in the kitchen, in a pool of blood.
The pensioner was wearing dark blue three-quarter pants and a grey t-shirt, with injuries to his head and face. The woman immediately alerted the police in the Brasso district.
The suspect was arrested and taken to the Chaguanas Health Facility for medical attention before being discharged.
Supt Glodon, Sgt Bhagoo, and PCs Reviero, Jaggessar, and Lutchman of the Central Division responded.
W/Cpl Dyer-Baptiste, PCs Ramdhanee, Young and WPC Cadette, of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations, Region Three, also responded.
PC Lall is leading the investigation.
