Man shot, killed in Diego Martin

A Diego Martin man is dead after being gunned down during a gathering on the night of June 9.
The victim has been identified as Samuel Johnson, 21, a maintenance worker also from Diego Martin.
Reports say that around 10.30 pm on June 9, officers of the West End District were on mobile patrol when they received a wireless transmission from the Command Centre regarding gunfire heard at Ragoo Drive, Diego Martin.
On arrival, officers observed a beige-coloured Nissan Almera at the scene. The vehicle’s occupants informed police they were transporting Johnson to the St James Medical Complex. They said Johnson had been shot around 10.20 pm.
Police escorted the vehicle to the medical complex, where Johnson succumbed to his injuries while being attended to by medical personnel. He was pronounced dead at 10.57 pm.
Crime-scene investigators processed the area and recovered 14 spent 9mm shell casings: 12 with the marking “TRN 20 9x19mm,” two with the marking “CBC Luger nine mm” and one bullet fragment.
Reports say Johnson had been liming with a group at Ragoo Drive when a gunman approached and opened fire, hitting Johnson multiple times before fleeing the scene on foot.
In a separate incident, a 50-year-old WASA employee from Blanchisseuse, identified as Junior Leequay, was ambushed and killed while driving in the area.
Reports say around 10.20 am, also on June 9, Leequay was driving his silver Nissan Frontier on Paria Main Road, Blanchisseuse, when he was attacked by unknown assailant(s).
In an attempt to escape, Leequay reversed his vehicle up an embankment while the gunmen continued firing. His vehicle eventually rolled into a nearby bamboo patch and came to a stop.
Around 10.45 am, officers of the Blanchisseuse Police Station on mobile patrol responded to a report of an accident. On arrival, they found the car parked with the left front passenger door open.
Inside, they observed Leequay slouched over in the driver’s seat, bleeding and unresponsive. He was clad in a blue jersey and blue long pants.
The vehicle was riddled with bullet holes. Leequay was pronounced dead at the scene by the district medical officer.
Crime-scene investigators from the Special Evidence Recovery Unit processed the area and recovered multiple shell casings, projectiles and bullet fragments.
Police investigations into both murders are continuing.
