A 63-year-old man from Santa Cruz had his car battery stolen while cutting grass along Lady Young Road, Morvant, on June 8.

According to reports, the man secured his silver Toyota Aqua around 1pm and began cutting grass nearby. When he returned at about 4.15 pm, he discovered the small triangular glass on the right rear door had been shattered.

On further inspection he saw the interior of the vehicle had been ransacked and the hybrid battery, valued at $15,000, was missing.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident in St James, a 62-year-old resident was attacked by two men who attempted to steal his car as he pulled into his yard.

The victim told police that around 10.20 pm, also on June 8, he parked his blue MG Trophy ZS on the roadway and had just opened his driver’s door when two men of African descent, dressed in dark clothing, one of whom was armed with a knife, approached him.

The assailants dragged him out of the vehicle, saying, “Pass the keys!”

A struggle took place, and the victim was beaten about his body. The suspects eventually fled the scene on foot, heading south along De Freitas Street and then onto George Cabral Street.

Police are investigating both matters.
