Burnt body found in Morvant

The burnt body of an unidentified man was found in Morvant on May 8 after firefighters were called to put out a bush fire.

Police say around 4 am, North Eastern Division police, officers from the San Juan Police Station and fire officers from the San Juan Fire Station were called to the scene of a bush fire behind a house on Cipriani Avenue Extension.

Fire officers contained the blaze, but to their horror, found the burnt body of a man lying among the burnt bushes.

The man’s body had suffered significant burns, particularly around the torso.

Police believe the deceased was of African descent, slim build, and appeared to be in his 30s.

A district medical officer viewed the body and ordered it to be taken to the Forensic Science Centre in St James where an autopsy will be done, pending formal identification.

WCpl Thompson of the San Juan Police Station is leading the investigation.
