Assault suspects arrested while seeking treatment

Two men were arrested hours after their alleged involvement in a fight when they went for treatment at the Chaguanas Health Centre.

Police say a man arrived at the facility around 10.15 pm on May 7 with injuries about his body.

While there, he saw two Caroni men, ages 19 and 21, who he claimed to have fought with earlier that night.

The victim pointed out the two men to police at the facility and said they were the men who assaulted him.

A female officer approached both men, identified herself, and told them of the man’s allegations.

She asked if they heard what the man said and then told them they were suspects in his assault.

Both men became irate and began shouting at the officer and insulting her.

She warned the men and told them not to disturb the public peace.

The men ignored her, and the teenager grabbed her left hand and pushed her.

When she and a colleague held him and tried to arrest him for assaulting an officer, the other suspect stood between them and the teen, and tried to stop the police from arresting him.

Both suspects were then arrested for assaulting a police officer and obstructing an officer from performing his duties.

The suspects were medically examined before being taken to the Cunupia Police Station.
