Tobago crush North by 8 wickets in TTCB U-13 contest

The Tobago zone recorded an emphatic eight-wicket win over their North zone counterparts when action in the TT Cricket Board’s (TTCB) Under-13 Interzone competition continued at the St Mary’s College Grounds, St Clair on May 6.

Batting first, North were bowled out for a modest score of 132 from 30.1 overs, with five players scoring in double digits. Reduced to 85 for nine at one stage, North got a 47-run partnership for the final wicket between Ethan Thomas (14) and top-scorer Jake Dookie (17 off 18 balls) before the former was run out by Mkei Adams to signal the end of the innings.

Opening bowler Kael Campbell (three for 31) and Amani Lovell (three for 29) were the chief destroyers for Tobago and they accounted for the first five scalps to leave North reeling on 57 for five in the 14th over. Opener Christiano Carrington (16) was the second-best scorer in the North innings, while Adams, Jonathan Kent and Zaire McMillan took a wicket apiece for the Tobago team.

In reply, the Tobago batsmen didn’t have the same issues as their counterparts as they raced to 133 for two in the 26th over, with Kymuel Lynch showing his prowess with an unbeaten, boundary-filled fifty.

Campbell (15) and Kent (seven) were both dismissed with the score on 31 after a decent opening partnership. North looked to be seizing momentum when Dookie prised out the wicket of Kent in the ninth over, but captain Lynch and McMillan left the result in no doubt with their unbeaten 102-run partnership.

Lynch smashed 66 off 48 balls with 13 fours, with a more conservative McMillan getting 22 off 52 balls to help take his team to the comfortable win.

Despite the heavy loss, North have progressed to the semis where they will face Central from 10 am at Greig Steet in Balmain, Couva on May 8. Simultaneously, North East will battle South East in the other semi at the National Cricket Centre, Balmain.
