PRIME Minister Stuart Young said the Government had no intention of firing workers at state-run WASA and TTEC, addressing a women's platform PNM rally at St James on April 23, ahead of Monday's general election.

He spoke minutes after PSA head Felisha Thomas had addressed a UNC Coalition of Interests political rally at St John's Ambulance Hall in Port of Spain.

Young said, "Unfortunately tonight another woman who is a leader of a union saw it fit to try and rebut what I said earlier today when I told the population that we in the People's National Movement are not privatising WASA nor are we getting rid of the workers."

He accused the union of doubling down on what he dubbed a lie and told listeners he was sorry they were being used in that way.

"That sub-cabinet committee report that you (PSA) are referring to, that I referred to today, was rejected by the Cabinet.

"A committee puts forward a report, a committee makes recommendations, and our position (on) workers at WASA (and) workers of TTEC is that we are not getting rid of WASA and TTEC, and we are not privatising it." He reiterated that the government was not looking to get rid of workers.

"What we did is we restructured the management of WASA.

"So allow me those few seconds to just put that frontally back on the record, because they tried to double down a few moments ago, with the same lie."
