ATTORNEY General Camille Robinson-Regis questioned the fitness of Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar to run TT if elected prime minister in next Monday's general election, addressing a women's platform PNM rally in St James on April 23. She urged voters to "take a long, hard look," as she then referenced the 12 women offering themselves as PNM candidates across TT (in a seeming comparison to Persad-Bissessar).

Robinson-Regis said, "Do you think any of them would need a five-day weekend to catch themselves after working hard for one day? Do you see any of them needing assistance to walk on the stage?

"Do you see any of them doing a motorcade in their constituency rather than walking door to door? Have you heard very clearly what they said or did you hear 'blah, blah, blah'?"

Robinson-Regis declared, "It is absolutely clear that Kamla Persad-Bissessar does not have the capacity – mental or physical – to manage the affairs of this country.

"She is unfit to lead this country. She was unfit between 2010 and 2015, and now at 73 she is completely unfit."

Saying PNM leader Dr Keith Rowley was "fit, fit as ever" at 75, she contrasted Persad-Bissessar whom she said was just two years younger.

"That woman is not fit to govern. She can't even govern herself.

"Kamla and the UNC pose a threat to the democracy of Trinidad and Tobago. The choice is ours on April 28. We must make the right choice."

Robinson-Regis urged PNM women to lead in making that choice.

"Today Kamla is a danger to our country. The UNC is reckless. They are worthless and we cannot in all conscience ask them to return to govern our TT."

She said the election was very simple – a choice between the PNM and UNC, "a choice between progressive leadership or a return to the kleptocracy."

Robinson-Regis said, "Our nation demands decisive leadership, sober judgement and unflinching courage. There is one name that stands above the rest. The Honourable Stuart Richard Young, SC, is not just leading; He is forging the path ahead."

She hailed Young's past work including negotiating billion-dollar natural gas contracts for TT, helping to restructure Atlantic LNG and building TT's economic backbone.

"He has faced several threats that have come to this nation and has not flinched. Stuart is a man of his word and a man upon whom we can depend."

Robinson-Regis claimed that in Parliament, Young had taken part in 88 debates on bills and 57 debates on motions, ahead of Persad-Bissessar's record of 51 debates on bills and 27 debates on motions.

"He does not run from responsibility. He meets responsibility head on.

"He doesn't retreat from press conferences. He rolls up his sleeves and works in the interest of the people of TT.

"Whether it is national (issues) or energy, security or justice reform, he has been in the engine room of this country's growth between 2015 and 2025.

"We are saying tonight, he is the one who must be the prime minister from 2025-2030."
