Two men hide in drain to escape death

TWO men escaped being shot to death in Barataria after they jumped into a nearby drain and hid.
Around 10.15 pm on April 8, a 44-year-old Morvant man was walking along Eighth Avenue and when he reached his gate, he saw two men running towards him.
One of the men shot at him several times and he ran into his yard at the back of the house.
He continued hearing gunshots and jumped over his fence and hid in a nearby drain.
A Venezuelan man who was in the man’s house heard the commotion and opened the front door to see what was happening.
He was shot in his neck and mouth when he opened the door but managed to run to the back of the yard as well.
He, too, then jumped over the fence and hid in the nearby drain.
When the shooting stopped, the men were taken to the hospital by a passerby.
The Venezuelan man remains warded while the Morvant man escaped with minor bruises.
Police tried to interview the residents but none were willing to make a statement.
Police found nine spent shells, one projectile, one black magazine and seven live rounds.
Cpl Duncan of Morvant CID is continuing enquiries.
