ASJA facing SSCL demotion, eye last-day magic

ASJA Boys’ College San Fernando will need a convincing victory and hope Hillview lose badly, in the final round of the PowerGen Secondary Schools Cricket League (SSCL) premier division, which will be played on March 11 from 10 am.

The bottom four schools in the ten-team tournament will be relegated to the championship division. Seventh-placed ASJA know that anything less than a victory will see them fall to the lower division.

ASJA will play fourth-placed Presentation College San Fernando at Union Hall Grounds in San Fernando. It is a possibility ASJA can still be demoted if they win and sixth-placed Hillview lose. Hillview just need four bonus points to ensure they stay in the premiership division in their final-round game against third-placed Naparima College at Honeymoon Park in El Dorado.

Presentation College Chaguanas have already sealed the title after winning eight matches in a row to start the season. “Pres” clinched the crown with a victory last week against Vishnu Boys’ Hindu College.

In the championship north division, leaders Queen’s Royal College (QRC) will earn promotion to the top flight with a win over Tunapuna Secondary. Any slip-up by QRC, will see second-placed Trinity College East or third-placed Manzanilla Secondary move to the top and earn promotion. Manzanilla and Trinity East battle at the Brooklyn Recreation Grounds in Sangre Grande.

The south championship title has already been determined as Shiva Boys’ Hindu College have clinched the title. Shiva will play in the premiership division next year.
