Waldron, Romany shine at Guardian Group's 5K, 10K
Endurance Elite club members Tafari Waldron and Nicholas Romany stole the show at Guardian Group's Securing Hope for those In Need (SHINE) 5K and 10K in St Clair on Saturday by winning their respective categories.
As both prepare for the Run Barbados event from December 6-9, they showed they were in fine form.
Waldron crossed the line in 14 minutes and 47 seconds (14:47) to complete the course, which started and ended at Nelson Mandela Park. Waldron was rewarded with a $2,000 prize, a trophy and a hamper.
Club-mate Donnell Francis, who will also join Romany and Waldron in Barbados, placed second in the 5K in 15:42, collecting a $1,500 prize.
In the men's 10K, Romany had another battle with Kenya's Alex Ekesa, with the former winning the battle this time around with a clocking of 31:32 to cop the $3,000 first prize.
With both men well clear of the pack, Ekesa got silver in 31:50 to earn a $2,000 prize, with Colin Perreira grabbing the $1,000 prize as he placed third in 38:03.
The women's 5K event was won by the impressive Samantha Shukla, with Celine Lestrade copping the women's 10K in 44:38.
