PNM screens for six more parliamentary seats
THE PNM screened potential candidates for six parliamentary seats on October 29, party chairman Stuart Young told Newsday via WhatsApp on October 30.
Newsday observed that the seats were all now UNC-held and most were publicly regarded as UNC safe seats, although the PNM's Amoy Mohammed won Princes Town in 1981.
The seats are Naparima, Oropouche East, Oropouche West, Princes Town, Siparia and Couva South.
In a follow-up query, Newsday asked if any candidate/s had been chosen, but got no reply up to press time.
The PNM began screening for seats in August for the constituencies of Fyzabad, Mayaro, Moruga/Tableland, Pointe-a-Pierre, Barataria/San Juan, Caroni East, Chaguanas East, Cumuto/Manzanilla and St Augustine.
Newsday called the UNC to ask if its screening was imminent, but an official source said no.
