Tobago T10 Community Windball League set to begin
THE eagerly anticipated Tobago T10 Community Windball Cricket League is set to ignite the cricketing spirit across the island from September 8-29.
The tournament aims to encourage camaraderie. A media release by the organising committee said, "Bringing communities together under the theme #BringingCommunitiesTogether, this league promises high-intensity action with over $40,000 in prizes to be won, including a grand prize of $20,000 for the winning team."
A new champion will be crowned this year as defending champions DXL Crown Point Spartans have chosen not to participate this year.
The league features a thrilling line-up of 12 teams, strategically divided into two competitive groups.
Playing in Group A are Roxborough Gunners, Main Ridge Challengers, Buccoo United, Whim Sharks, Jade Monkey Easy Boys and Pembroke Upsetters.
Duking it out in Group B are Roxborough Royals, Betsy’s Hope Scrape Up, Canaan/Bon Accord Masters, Concordia Rising Stars, Mason Hall Challengers and PTSC. The top four in each group will advance to the Big Eight quarterfinals.
All matches will be hosted at the Parade Square, Bacolet, with each team battling in ten-over matches beginning at 10 am on weekends.
Women are not being left out of the action. "In a unique twist, every team is required to have at least one female player, emphasising inclusivity and broadening the appeal of the game," the media release said.
Registration for the teams closed on August 23 with no late entries accepted.
"Organised under the auspices of the Ministry of Sport and Community Development and powered by community spirit, the Tobago T10 Community Windball Cricket League is more than just a sporting event. It’s a celebration of the unity and resilience of Tobago’s communities.
