Trinidad and Tobago Under-15 coach: We want people to respect women's football
Trinidad and Tobago's Under-15 girls' football team will go after a third-place finish when they face Guatemala in their final game in League B of the Concacaf Girls' Under-15 Championships from 9 am at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo on August 11.
The hosts just missed out on a spot in the League B final after losing 1-0 to Dominican Republic in the semis on August 9, with opposing skipper Kaylee Lainez breaking TT's hearts with a last-gasp free kick.
TT's campaign has included wins over Curacao and Grenada, and coach Marlon Charles is pleased with the progress of his charges.
"I'm so proud. It's all about trying to do well for women's football. And when we play like that, the younger girls will want to play football," Charles told TT Football Association (TTFA) media on August 9.
"This is what the whole initiative is about. We want people to start to respect the women's game a little bit more," Charles said.
"There are a lot of things to work on, but I was proud of the whole team when we had the ball and when we didn't have the ball."
Charles said the attitude of the team is encouraging and he wants them to end the tournament on a high.
"They want to do well. You don't have to ask kids to win. They want to win. For us, we just want to put them in the environment and continue to work with them and tell them the right things.
"Sometimes you win and sometimes you learn. And this is a learning experience for them."
Dominican Republic and Honduras will meet in the League B final from 11 am in Mucurapo on August 11.
