THE EDITOR: The steelpan fraternity, and the nation, must be elated.

Lest we forget, our Parliament unanimously proclaimed the steelpan as being TT's National Musical Instrument, via the National Musical Instrument Bill 2024.

As a result, pan must be publicly recognised and referred to by its new and official title – National Musical Instrument. It is deserving of more than a cultural salute.

Prior to July 4, the steelpan was not officially recognised as the national instrument. It is now.
