Trinidad and Tobago conclude Caribbean table tennis with two medals
Trinidad and Tobago’s youngsters concluded their 2024 Caribbean Region Table Tennis Federation Mini and Pre-Cadet Championship campaign with two medals – a silver and a bronze – as the curtains fell in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic on July 7.
On the final day, Zayden Sagramsingh battled to joint bronze in the U11 boys singles. After receiving a first round bye, Sagramsingh defeated Puerto Rico’s Carlos Medina 11-8, 11-8, 10-12, 12-10 in the quarter-final.
However, up against Puerto Rican Ryan Rivera in the semis, Sagramsingh tried his best but went down 7-11, 9-11, 9-11. He and the other losing semi-finalist Kennuel Arroyo finished tied in third place.
Sagramsingh, however, was also part of the two-man TT team that captured silver in the U11 boys’ team event, alongside compatriot Tristan Soomarie. In the gold medal match, Soomarie won the opening singles match 3-1 but Sagramsingh lost the second 0-3.
The pair lost the doubles tie 1-3 before Sagramsingh lost the fourth game 0-3, to take silver.
