Mosca shows his Reverence for Life

Veteran wildlife artist Larry Mosca brings a touch of nature with his latest exhibition Reverence for Life which is ongoing at Horizons Art Gallery.

From his first sell-out exhibition in 1976 to now, Mosca has had over 20 one-man shows. He has won the respect of local art lovers and nature conservationists, earning a reputation as Trinidad’s leading nature painter, a media release said.

Mosca’s work can be found in most major art collections here as well as in other countries including England and Argentina.

Mosca’s intimacy with nature has led him to be deeply concerned with conservation. He hopes his paintings will allow viewers to gain a deeper understanding of the natural world, and that knowledge will lead to love, the release said.

“In love, you can do nothing wrong. Love cannot pollute, love cannot leave trash in nature, love cannot disregard and disrespect nature and animals,” he said in the release.

He feels that the solution to many environmental threats would be for people to live out this love.

“The more people there are that respect nature and our environment, the less exploitation and the greater the awareness of the importance of protecting nature there will be.”

Mosca was born in 1953 in Woodbrook. His course was set when, at age 22, he won an art scholarship from the Asa Wright Nature Centre in Arima, where he had three weeks of training with the famous wildlife artist and ornithologist Don Richard Eckelberry.

Reverence for Life continues at the gallery, 37 Mucurapo Road, St James, until July 13. Viewing is from 8.30 am-5 pm, Mondays to Fridays, and 9 am-1 pm on Saturdays.
