In what’s being described as a historic and once-in-a-lifetime event, 12 roots and culture sound systems from Trinidad and Tobago will come together for a unique Dubplate Showcase at Club Amazon in St Augustine, on July 6.

Never before has this calibre of TT reggae sound system legends shared the same stage to feature their novelty collections of dubplates.

A dubplate is an exclusive custom recording of the artiste’s song for a specific sound system or DJ. The reggae community is buzzing in anticipation of hearing "dubs" cut by each sound system over the past three-four decades.

Hosted by Mauricio Joseph of King Tafari Sound, the Dubplate Showcase features longstanding sounds such as Black Chariot International, Nyahbinghi, Solid Rock, Royalty, Lion King, 9 Miles and New Chapter.

Also coming to feature their customised dubs are Earthquake International, ReggaeMatic Sound, People Station and New Blood. King Tafari is also expected to delve deep into this dub box at the showcase.

Joseph said, “Over the years I realised there were plenty of sound men in the Rasta community that gathered up dubplates but never had a platform to showcase them. So that’s why I came up with the idea to do this. I did one already ten years ago, but with only five sounds.”

The first sound hits the stage at 10.30 pm.
