Cycling siblings Akil and Teniel Campbell of Perfection Services Limited (PSL) cycling club pedaled to the national elite men and women’s road race titles at Ato Boldon Stadium in Balmain, Couva, on June 30.

Akil completed the challenging 160km course in three hours and 34 seconds flat to cop the 2024 men’s crown. Evolution Cycling’s Tariq Woods took silver, and with it the national U23 title, while Heatwave’s Enrique De Comarmond rode to bronze.

Heatwave’s Kirston George and Guy Costa rounded off the top five finishers respectively.

Additionally, European-based road cyclist Teniel powered to victory in the women’s road race. She held off eventual runner-up Cheyenne Awai of Heatwave and third place Kery Montano of Raiders Cycle & Multisport.

Teniel also won another national title when she dominated the 14-lap event. She completed the circuit in 38 minutes and 26.20s. Montano was second in 45.37.44 while club-mate Marsha Trepte, who clocked 48.48.20, rounded the top three.

Raiders Cycle’s Liam Trepte also captured two national titles racing in the Elite/U23 20-lap event. He won the race in 49.10.09 and because of his age, also took the U23 title ahead of the eight-man field.

Akil was second (49.15.30) in the elite division and Woods (49.17.37) third, and second for the U23s.

In the junior road race, Raiders Cycle’s Jadian Neaves was the only finisher, and eventual champion, as opponents Titus Bharat (PSL) and Chad Dixon (Rigtech Sonics) took silver and bronze respectively.

Madonna Wheelers’ Renelle Bernard (25.02.62) won the junior women seven-lap while Rigtech Sonics’ Mercedes Joseph was golden in the U23 women’s 14-lap event.
