THE 53-year-old female suspect in the recent stabbing death of Gary Balgobin in a domestic dispute at the family’s home in Ste Madeleine has been released from police custody without charge.

On July 2, the police confirmed she was released pending further inquiries, after getting instructions from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Balgobin, 57, of Stanleyville, was stabbed with a knife on June 24 around 7 pm. Balgobin, the father of five and grandfather of six, and the suspect, a close relative, were arguing over his drinking habit.

PCs Matloo and Ramkissoon of the nearby Ste Madeleine police station responded and the suspect handed over the knife.

Balgobin was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead hours later at 11.53 pm.

Bereaved relatives told reporters Balgobin was not a violent or bad person, but said he used to let alcohol control him.

Cpl Griffith, WPC Mohammed and other officers of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations Region Three also responded and detained the woman the same night.

WPC Rampersad is leading the investigations.
