A farmer from Mayaro who was found with multiple chop wounds before dawn on July 1 has died.

Valmiki Singh, 25, of Saltwater Line Road in Stone Brite Village, died while being treated at the Mayaro District Health Facility.

The police said around 2.15 am on July 1, a fellow villager heard his dogs barking at the bottom of a hill near his home.

He checked, heard someone's distressed voice and called the Mayaro police station.

At around 4.30 am, doctors declared him dead, and DMO Dr Marshall ordered Singh's body removed. An autopsy is expected to be done during the week at the Forensic Science Centre in St James.

Eastern Division police as well as Sgt Ramsahai, acting Insp Mahabir, PC Rambhajan and other police from the Homicide Bureau of Investigations, Region II, visited the scene and gathered evidence.

Investigators do not yet have a motive.
