THE Agriculture Ministry has taken immediate steps to stop roaming buffaloes from wreaking havoc on residents and agricultural produce in Mora Valley, Rio Claro.

Agriculture, Land and Fisheries Minister Kazim Hosein said in addition to immediate steps to prevent any disaster, an investigation has been launched after complaints from residents.

In a statement on April 17, Hosein said he too was very concerned by reports that buffaloes at Mora Valley Farm were roaming freely, causing safety concerns among residents and damage to local agriculture.

"The safety of our citizens and the protection of our agricultural assets are paramount. We are taking comprehensive measures to ensure that similar incidents are prevented in the future," Hosein promised.

He said a key response from the ministry had been the deployment of regional officers to fully assess the extent of crop damage and evaluate the overall impact on local farmers.

Additionally, he has mandated immediate repairs to the fencing around Mora Valley Farm, to secure the area.

The ministry's engineering division is also conducting remedial work to mitigate any further risks and restore normalcy to the affected areas.

The ministry also said members of the Praedial Larceny Squad were in direct contact with the residents, providing necessary assistance and ensuring that their concerns and needs are addressed promptly.

"We are committed to resolving this issue swiftly and transparently,"

"Our goal is to maintain open and effective communication with all stakeholders as we work collaboratively to manage and resolve this unfortunate situation."

He thanked the Mora Valley residents for their patience and co-operation
