THE Tobago Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) is warning the public to stay clear of the capsized barge currently lodged on a reef near Cove Eco-Industrial and Business Park.

In a media release on April 8, TEMA said it received reports that jet skis were seen in the vicinity of the Gulfstream vessel over the weekend.

TEMA said this poses "an extreme risk that could lead to accidents, as divers are currently working in the salvage operation,

It said a comprehensive salvaging strategy has been implemented to receive pumped cargo, utilising advanced anchoring methodologies to ensure the safety of support vessels.

An exclusion zone of 500m (1,640 feet) was requested for the diving operation.

"We hereby inform and urge all individuals engaged in maritime activities to exercise extreme caution in these areas, as salvaging work is under way by T&T Salvage and QT Environmental.

TEMA said there is also a south mark 46m (150 feet) away from the buoy and no vessels are allowed to pass between the Gulfstream and the mark.

This was approved and implemented by the Maritime Services Division to ensure the safety of those with marine interests.

TEMA said it is best that all vessels avoid the location until further notice.

It added, "It is crucial that we all understand the gravity of the situation and actively participate in the ongoing efforts to address and contain this incident.

"Your understanding and co-operation are not just appreciated; they are vital for the success of our ongoing work and to safeguard our marine environment."
