The family of real estate businessman Lindwald Beharry, whose body was found in his vehicle down a precipice in Moruga, 11 days after he went missing, were literally on their knees praying for an answer when they got information that his body was found.

Beharry’s sister, Narissa Beharry told the Newsday on April 6, that while it was not the outcome they were hoping for, it has brought some closure, but has not reduced the pain.

She believes her brother may have tried to get the vehicle off the road to avoid harming anyone after he had a heart attack.

However, he would have unknowingly swerved off into a precipice and his vehicle not visible from the main road.

Narissa said her brother was a former veteran of the US Navy and putting the lives of others before his own was one of his typical traits.

“He was the most compassionate, caring person,” she said.

Beharry, 62, CEO of Trinidad Real Estate Training, Cross Crossing, San Fernando, was on his way to see his doctor at Southern Medical on March 26, when it is believed he had a heart attack.

From the preliminary examination done by the DMO, Narissa said no foul play was suspected although an autopsy would be done to determine the cause of death. Knowing he may have died from natural causes and was not murdered, has also brought a sense of comfort to the family.

“Police said his seat belt was still intact when they found him and he was still wearing his jewellery.”

She said the family did not know he had heart issues as he kept that to himself.

Beharry, who was divorced with three grown children, lived alone, His neighbours told family and the police they heard him coughing incessantly the night before he went missing and he sounded like he was in a lot of pain.

His doctor also informed the police that they had a conversation around 6.30 am on March 26, and an appointment was scheduled for 9 am.

Narissa thanked members of her family, friends, the police, the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, Hunters Search and Rescue team and villagers who teamed up to search for Beharry over the last 11 days.

It was a villager who spotted Beharry's Mercedes Benz, PBM 8, down the precipice and alerted other villagers who lived nearby. They contacted the police and Beharry's body was retrieved.

Roxanne Joseph, who described Beharry as a friend and mentor, said he impacted the lives of every individual he met.

Joseph said his greatest joy was teaching and using real estate to teach, to help others succeed in whatever venture they embarked upon.

“This was a genuine, generous, gentle giant. We are grateful he was found and would be able to lay him to rest.”

Narissa said a funeral service will be held at the Roman Catholic Church, Grand Chemin, Moruga, tentatively set for April 12.

Lindwald Beharry, 62, CEO of Trinidad Real Estate Training, had been reported missing since March 26.

A member of Rambharat’s team said they believed Beharry may have had a heart attack while driving and ran off the road, around a corner in Rock River, Moruga. The crash site is between two houses, and the vehicle went down the precipice away from public view.

An autopsy will be done at the Forensic Science Centre next week to determine the cause of death.
