A SPECIAL reserve policeman from Princes Town has been granted bail after he appeared in court charged with three sexual offences including rape and buggery.

Kwame Phillip, 33, faced Master Shabiki Cazabon in the Port of Spain High Court on January 23 charged with two counts of rape and one count of buggery against a woman.

Phillip who was last posted to the San Fernando police station, was not called upon to plead as the charges were laid indictably.

He was granted $550,000 bail with a surety and as a condition of the bail, the accused must report to the Princes Town police station on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

The court also ordered that he has no communication whatsoever with the virtual complainant and must stay at least 200 feet from her.

The offences allegedly took place in the St Ann's district on August 18.

Police reported that a woman met up with a man at a fast food outlet in San Fernando and left together to go to a river in the Port of Spain area. It is there that the acts were committed.

PC Mc Cully laid the charges and attorney Kiran Panday represented the accused. The court heard that Phillip had no pending matters or previous convictions. The case was adjourned to April 19.
