THE EDITOR: I read Dr Errol Benjamin’s recent letter headlined, How we in Trinidad and Tobago enjoy Christmas.

Crime unfortunately is well-embedded in our society, as it is everywhere else in the world. Nowhere is perfect, so let us count our many daily blessings and actually be grateful to be living in beautiful Trinidad and Tobago.

If you have ever lived abroad, you will never have experienced this warmth and friendliness of our own people. Even standing in a line to pay a utility bill, we talk openly on the latest topic to a complete stranger.

This is unique and not found anywhere else in the world. Even while overseas, the TT people tend to stick together whether living in the US, England or in other parts of the West Indies.

Our tourism can thrive on the warmth and friendliness we share with each other, even strangers, here in TT. Another plus is that the tourists will not have to travel elsewhere to experience the many foreign cultures which we have inherited right here, when centuries ago, our forefathers came from Africa, India, Europe, China etc.

They then intermarried which is reflected in the beautiful features of our people, our many different religions, ceremonies, variety of tasty food, music and dance in which we celebrate our daily lives at home in TT.

We are truly blessed and should not take our uniqueness for granted.
