Prime Minister happy with new central block of Port of Spain hospital

THE Prime Minister said on Monday he was pleased the construction of the new central block at the Port of Spain General Hospital was proceeding within the set schedule and seemingly within budget.

Dr Rowley spoke at an on-site briefing top mark the topping off of the structure, signalling the completion of its concrete superstructure.

"I must commend the local contracting fraternity for coming to the party and rising to the occasion."

He said things were going very well.

"This hospital is one of the projects I keep my eyes on from day one."

He recalled structural issues with the old central block which had to be demolished.

"Its structural replacement is engineeringly sound."

Rowley said the block would join other hospital infrastructure being built across TT. "We have managed to complete the Couva Hospital. We have built the Point Fortin Hospital. We built the Arima Hospital. We have almost completed the Sangre Grande Hospital, and we are well-advanced at Port of Spain General (Hospital).

"When we occupy this building, we could comfortably say that the capital city has a structure and space and facilities worthy of its name the capital."

Rowley said the block would serve patients in areas from Diego Martin to Port of Spain to East Trinidad.

He reiterated, "We'll keep within the time and hopefully the budget."
