A Belle Garden, Tobago woman was killed on Saturday night in a vehicular accident along the Claude Noel Highway, near Shaw Park.

According to police, 43-year-old Lavorne Dick-Douglas was driving west around 11.05 pm when her car crashed into a truck heading in the opposite direction. The mother of three, originally from Castara, died at the scene. The driver of the truck is assisting police with their investigations.

Damien Douglas, husband of the deceased, said his wife got into the accident while heading to meet him at Big Dawg Sports Bar in Bon Accord. He said they were married for 14 years and together for 15 years,

Douglas, a professional pool player, said he would normally travel to the sports bar to play pool, and his wife would later drive to meet him there. It was an arrangement they had for a long time.

"Yesterday I travelled down. I came out looking for her but I didn't see her...After the people stop roller skating – they does roller skate up to 11 o' clock – I looked out but I didn't see her like I usually do."

Douglas said he did not have his cellphone on him that day. "Normally I would look and if she still home I will tell her, 'Better yuh doh bother to come, (a friend) go bring meh up.'"

Douglas said a security guard at the venue broke the tragic news to him.

"The security come and tell meh to come outside: 'Wa is yuh wife car number?'

"I tell him the number and then he say she get in ah accident and I think she died."

Douglas said the only thing he could do was hold his head in despair.

He remembered his wife was a very lively and industrious person. "She did a lot of courses. She has about close to 40 certificates. She did a lifeguard course...

"She was a person like natural stuff. I stop buy soap. She making soap, creams, body butter and sell all them thing in Castara. She was very good at what she does. I paid for a class online from England for two years. She does baking, all sorts of things.

"She loved life. She loved colours. She hair always in bright colours. A bubbly person."

Asked what memory he would cling to the most, Douglas replied, "Our friendship. Within a year I met her, we got married."

He said they had planned to spend the Tobago carnival period in Charlotteville at a guest house.

He expressed gratitude for relatives and friends who have been supportive in his family's time of grief.
