Bandits tried to take the “30 minutes or free” guarantee made by most food delivery services a little too seriously when they tried to rob a KFC delivery driver of a bucket of chicken with biscuits and fries on Friday night.

Police reports said 30-year-old Atiba Joseph, a delivery driver for KFC St Margaret’s, was informed by his dispatch operator about an order for a 12-piece KFC Mega Meal with four biscuits and four portions of fries, valued at about $240. The order was to be delivered to Lodge Ali Street, Pranz Gardens, Claxton Bay.

Joseph left the branch almost an hour later – at 9.15 pm – along with a co-worker who sat in the front passenger seat of Joseph’s white Nissan Tiida. At about 9.25 pm, when he got to the location, Joseph called the number of the person who made the order and a short while after three men, two armed with cutlasses and one with a gun, walked up to the car and announced a robbery.

The bandits snatched the biscuits and fries, but as they were about to get the chicken, the driver sped off. Police said as he drove off one of the bandits kicked and chopped the bumper of his car, causing damage.

Police are now searching for the person who made the order as a suspect in the attempted robbery.

In an unrelated incident, hours earlier ,at about 1.30 pm bandits used real guns to rob a delivery driver of toy guns in Laventille.

Police reports said Mark Sahadeo, a courier who delivers items on behalf of Jay’s Toy Box, went to Lower Picton Road, Laventille to make a delivery. He parked his silver Nissan Navara on the western side of the road and was approached by two men, one of whom had a gun.

The two men announced a robbery and robbed the delivery man of $100 and two packages, each containing four BB gel guns. One package was worth $1,280 and the other $1,625

The men then escaped through a nearby track.
