Kamla, step down before ruining your legacy

THE EDITOR: Regardless of how great Brian Lara was, had he stayed in the crease long past his prime, his legacy would have been ruined by no one but himself.

Shaka Hislop, Dwight Yorke and Lara have all moved on to new roles in their sport because time waits on no man and they have all had to face retirement from the game. I am sure it was hard for them, but they held their heads up high and they found new roles, new ways in which to contribute.

I love you Kamla Persad-Bissessar, I really do. I think you have given your entire life to this country, I think you've served better than many.

I can see you doing a tour telling your story and inspiring others to serve. I for one would love to sit and listen to how you managed a home and a country all at once. I'd love for you to open up to women, tell us how you rose to the top in a man's world. Not many women can do that and even fewer can boast of doing it with their family in tact.

Many athletes go on to ruin their legacies because they refuse to leave the game while they're on top. I urge you, out of nothing but love, you're at risk of ruining your legacy.

The party is full of young, vibrant, fresh faces – you've done well to pick them. It is time to allow them to take over the reigns.

I beg you, do not allow your legacy to be ruined.
