Another day at my favourite place

THE EDITOR: I went to transfer a vehicle. When I and the buyer reached the pit the officer said the people entering the data into the computer system had entered the chassis number incorrectly.

This is not my fault, because the hard copy had the correct number. Instead of an “0” they inserted an “O.” The officer said we have to request a correction, which would take about 15 days to fix and therefore the transfer process cannot continue.

Another day at my favourite place, the Licensing Department.

When we returned the chassis and engine check went fine. To the counter and the clerk said we needed two forms of ID. The purchaser had one ID, his DP. The clerk rudely said “two forms of ID otherwise nothing can be done.” That is the rule, dumb as it seems. Luckily the purchaser lives close by and was able to get his ID.

My point is, you have a driving licence issued by the Government's Licensing Department. Why do you need another form of ID? What is the significance of that? Maybe I’m missing something. However, we could never attain First World status when we have these dumb rules, and even dumber people (myself) being ruled by them.

I’m sure this could have been done in one day, but I refuse to pay anyone to do their job properly.
