Kerdell Wint and Triston James, both 18, were shot dead when they tried to rob a group of people in D’Abadie on Wednesday.

Police said around 9.10 pm the group was playing Scrabble at Leela’s Bar at the corner of Piarco Old Road and Red Hill, D’Abadie, when two armed men came in and announced a robbery.

The men started taking away belongings from people in the bar before taking money from the cash register.

James fired several shots at the group when one person started to scream.

One of the victims, who is a licensed firearm holder, fired several shots at the bandits.

A DMO pronounced Wint dead on the scene. First responders transported James to the Arima Health Facility for medical attention, but he died of his injuries hours later.

Investigators found a black Sig Sauer pistol with its serial number filed off, a black magazine and 14 rounds of 9mm ammunition, along with 11 spent .9mm shells.
