Paul, Browne make early exits in World keirin

Trinidad and Tobago's Nicholas Paul and Kwesi Browne made early exits in the men's keirin event on Tuesday at the UCI World Cycling Championships, Glasgow, Scotland.

A day after claiming an historic silver medal in the sprint competition, Paul was unable to make an impression in the keirin. The 24-year-old speedster placed fifth in heat two and progressed to the repechage. Colombian Kevin Quintero and Japan's Kaiya Ota qualified for the quarterfinals by taking the top two spots.

Browne just missed out on automatic qualification by placing third in heat four. Suriname's Jair Tjon en Fa and German Maximilian Dornbach took the top positions.

In the repechage, Browne again was just short of the qualifying spots with a third-place finish in heat three, behind Israel's Mikhail Yakovlev and Australian Thomas Cornish.

Paul was fourth in heat four, which was won by France's Sebastien Vigier, followed by Netherlands' Tijmen van Loom.
